Nickel
Nickel is a silver-white metal with a yellowish tint. Endowed with malleability, plasticity, good polish.
They belong to the group of heavy metals. It represents five natural isotopes plus six created ones.
The classification of nickel alloys is based on condition and properties.
Acid-resistant alloys with addition and alloying with other metals:
- Chromium and tungsten give the alloy stability in aggressive oxidizing environments.
- Combinations with copper or molybdenum are used in aggressive non-oxidizing environments.
Corrosion resistance is provided by silicon and aluminum.
Heat-resistant alloys of the “nickel + chromium + additive of other alloying elements” type. Such elements are aluminum, tungsten, titanium, molybdenum, stanium, and others.
Such metal alloys are in demand for the production of units of power plants subjected to maximum loads.
Scope:
Direct nickel is in demand by industrial production:
- Corrosion resistant coating. It is used to protect the gland, aluminum, magnesium, zinc, cast iron, unalloyed steels. Reduces the cost of products.
- Devices, boilers, crucibles with constant physical and chemical characteristics, resistant to corrosion.
- Tanks for transportation and storage of chemical reagents (including caustic alkalis), ethereal materials.
- Pipes for pumping alkalis and other aggressive substances at chemical complex enterprises.
- Tools for science, medicine.
- Detailed devices for radar location, television, remote control of processes at nuclear power plants.
