The silicon content in ARMCO electrical steel is carefully controlled to achieve the required magnetic properties. Aluminum can also be added as an alloying element, typically up to 0.5%.

ARMCO electrical steel can be categorized into:

• Hot-rolled
• Cold-rolled
• Calibrated (produced through cold rolling or drawing from hot-rolled steel)

Hot-rolled ARMCO steel has a hardness of HB 10 -1, which is approximately 131 MPa. Its tensile strength is around 270 MPa.

In contrast, calibrated rolled steel offers better temporary resistance to rupture, with a strength of 350 MPa. However, its relative elongation after breaking is significantly lower, at only 6%, compared to the 24% of the hot-rolled variety.

Weldability is not a concern with this material. It can be welded without the need for preheating or subsequent heat treatment.
